TIGER JNPS10U 5.5CUP Rice Cooker: A Great Sushi Rice Cooker

If you are a fan of rice cookers then you are probably aware of all kinds on the market.  As you can tell from my site and the posts I have made I try to only discuss high quality devices for rice cooker cooking.  This is because the cheap ones have never worked well for me. Maybe I am a lousy cook but the quality rice cookers give me a good meal every time.

This time around I am going to talk about the TIGER JNPS10U 5.5CUP Rice CookerIt is made by the Tiger Corporation.  They were established in 1923 and their headquarters is in 3-1 Hayamicho, Kadoma City, Osaka, Japan.  They have 20000 sales outlets around the world and 1000 distributorships.  They focus on reliability and durability.  This is why a lot of their appliances and rice cookers have lasted well over 20 years. The only reason you would probably get rid of one of their rice cookers is if the styling was old.

This rice cooker comes with the rice cooking instructions you need to be happy.  You put your rice in here and the machine does the rest.  What I like about it is cooks different rices but if you like Sushi Rice then it does a fine job of cooking it for you.  This rice cooker cooks your rice evenly.  No crunchy rice or uneven cooking.  I hate it when that happens if I want grape nuts I will buy them!

The Tiger comes with a retractable cord and spatula.  It is easy to clean and never boils over.

 TiP:

When making sushi rice you need a medium grain Japanese style rice.  This is imperative.  I don’t know if you can buy this kind of rice in the store but I know you can get 15 pound lbs of it from Amazon. I recommend the Nishiki Premium Rice, Medium Grain, 15-Pound Bag.  It is great tasting and you get free delivery.   If you want a great sushi rice recipe or info go here.  They can explain much better than I can.

You can’t use any kind of rice for sushi rice. You will be disappointed if you do.

So there is my little take on the Tiger Rice Cooker.  It is a  more expensive than say a Black and Decker Rice cooker; which are very popular buy the way. I just trust the more expensive ones. The Tiger doesn’t cook a lot of other foods such as meats and veggies.  Iy you interested in one like that I reccomend the Cuisinart .  It runs like a champ and is well priced.

The Tiger Sushi Rice Cooker does one thing and does it well and that is cook rice.
