Zojirushi NS-TGC10 Micom 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless Steel Review

As I have stated before I love appliances.  I love good looking appliances, I love appliances that allow me to cook easily. Ease of use is very important to me. Especially, with my busy lifestyle.  I am very athletic and I love to eat.

When I was trying to decide which rice cooker to try out ( I have tried many) I didn’t really know which one to go with.  I don’t like little cheap ones.  They simply do not perform.  They fall apart and the rice simply does not come out well.  I am not the best cook in the world so something that can help me there is always good. Then I want one that can cook an array of rices, you know something that can handle multiple rice recipes. 

I went to a couple of places in my area. Target, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond.  They had rice cookers by some manufacturers I didn’t recognize. Cuisinart Rice Cookers were there.  They have a top notch product.  I have used that before and this time I wanted a different rice cooker. None of those stores had what I wanted to so I figured I would look on some on line retailers and see what was there.

I found the Zojirushi brand. The Zojirushi NS-TGC10 Micom 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker.  This was what I settled on and purchased.

As far as the Zojirushi brand goes these are not cheap cookers.  This one was 133.00 bucks. However, I believe in getting what you pay for. I have to say this joker is nice! It looks good in my kitchen with the stainless steel band around the white appliance.  The LCD display is easy to read.

It has a lot of cooking functions and a 5.5 cup cooking capacity.Like I said I need something that can do a lot of stuff so when I read the included manual it said I could cook white/sushi rice, mixed rice, porridge, sweet rice, brown rice, quick cooking, even cake. I have never tried cooking cake in this. I can barely bake a regular cake. I have to say if you are used to cooking cakes in a slow cooker I would think it is something along those lines.  It has a black inner cooking pan and heating system which cooks everything evenly.  It came with a spatula and a measuring cup. I love getting extra stuff.  It’s wattage is 610, so it heats up nicely.

The first thing I tried to make in this was brown rice.  I planned to put this brown rice over a buttered salmon.  I figured I would cook the rice while I was making the salmon.  I just measured out the rice and put it in the cooker.  Turned on the display and I was good to go.  It does take about 30 minutes for the rice to cook.  Here is the thing.  The rice came out lovely.  When I saved it for the next day. It was just as good.

The cool thing about a rice cooker like this is you can let it sit and warm for hours.  So if I cook my rice in the morning it is ready an hot when I get home.  I like to cook all my meals in advance and save them through out the week.  This way I don’t have to wait when I get home.  When I have nutrient dense, low glycemic rice waiting that is even better.  Goes great over chicken or fish.  I like to mix it in with soft ground beef sometimes.

So this rice cooker is alright in my book.  You may not like the price and the long cook time but quality costs.  These are the drawbacks for people on budgets.  The retractable power cord is nice and the little music that plays upon starting and finishing the rice is cool.  Makes me feel like I am in an anime movie.

A drawback is you gotta clean the lid after each use and there is now water collector (condensation).  Overall I like this cooker. I recommend it
